South Africa
The music is by previously named Dollar Brand, a South African born musician who is a world class pianist. He now goes by the name of Abdullah Ibrahim since he became a converted muslim. We saw him perform in Johannesburg.
At the age of 22 I left England and went to S Africa to live and work. At that age it just seemed like a bit of an adventure.
Loved every minute of it. I was there during the apartheid years so it was a little different then than it is now' Actually.... it was brutal!

Karen and Rhona
Rhona boyfriend Jeff--we played a lot of squash in those days.
Karen in Hillbrow where we went often for coffee.
Here is Karen’s brother Alan Jnr with two local ladies. Things got confusing for the Maxteds when I came into their lives. There were 3 Alans.
Alan Sir. I took this pic in 1975. Al was a male model for years. My friendship with Al lasted many years including all the years we were in the USA until he passed away.
I lived here 8 years. Apartheid was the order of the day. You either accepted it or you went back from whence you came.
Frank's dog Shag leg
In S Africa I stayed with a friend who I knew from The Central Technical School in Sheffield, England. Frank Dillon. Bumped into him quite by accident in a Squash Club in S Africa. Had no idea he was even still alive till that night. Well he had a dog you see--- and it was perpetually horny. Wanted to shag your leg every chance it got. I believe the leg you see here is actually Karen's leg. She used to wear clog type shoes like that. Anyway that leg is getting a good shagging right now.
Here is a pic of Ian Colley (Sheffield) a Scotsman center and John Roger on the right.
Robby (Scotland), Ian Colley (Sheffield), John Rodger (Port Glasgow) and myself at the back.
John Roger! We met at the airport in N West Africa, actually the SAL Islands, where the plane was refueling. Turns out he was emigrating to S Africa with the same Immigration Outfit that I was! What a coincidink!
John was a very splendid person but he didn't like living in Africa so he was only there a few weeks. Nevertheless some couple of years later I tracked him down back in Port Glasgow where we hit the Gantry hard and got massively hammered. I remember puking in his bathroom for an hour or more. Well-- memories hey?
Wish I knew where he was now.
NOTE- Oct 2019
Very sadly I did a random google on John Rodger and up came his obituary!!! He died 6 years ago leaving his wife Alice and children John, Kevin and Jenna. I knew for sure it was John because his wife was called Alice. I met her when I went to Renfrewshire Port Glasgow to visit John about 1976. He died peacefully 25th March, 2013.
God Bless you John Rodger.

Below are a couple of my favorite pics from Africa
One head two arses-- two heads one arse---one head one arse.
Pipe Band at a Highland Gathering-- poor guy keeled right over in the heat.
Zulus dancing at the local Gold Mine. Click HERE to see The Mine Dance page.
The scariest animal in Africa.
Dung Beetle pushing his ball of poop.
In Krugersdorp Game Reserve
This was everywhere during the Apartheid years.
Here the lions were thrown a dead horse. You can drive right up and watch and smell.
I saw these two albino lions but I can’t remember where!!! They were born in 1975 exactly when I was there.
Still has blood on his chops.
The baboons will sit on your car hood and if you spray the windshield water they drink it. Keep in mind the winters are warm here so it is straight water from the tap.
Just strolling down the road.
Our flat was above the garage.
One of my early cars the Ford Taunus. I had this exact same color.
Above is a short, very old, Super8 movie of Karen dancing at one of the Highland Dancing Competitions at a local Scottish gathering.
Then a crazy little thing we did with Al (father) Al Jnr (son), David (son) and daughter Karen. Probably about 1975.
