People of The World
———————————————————————-
Just about my favorite of all subjects. I love people photography. It's not always easy but so rewarding and makes a great gallery.
Hugh Masakela
We lost Hugh Masekela today Jan 24th 2018-- world class trumpeter and a great loss to the musical world. He was born in S Africa and unfortunately I didn't get to see him until I was living in Boston, Ma.
Typical miserable old Brit
Hong Kong
This guy posed for me in New Orleans on Gay Decadence week!!! You have to believe me when I tell you that I had no idea it was Gay Decadence week when I decided to go there! Click HERE to link to the Gay Decadence pages--they are fun to see.
Crazy Guy in Beijing.
All the way back to Boston, USA to snap this guy in Chinatown.
A village in S Africa
Homeless in the City of Johannesburg.
The pic above was taken in S Africa by Dave Goldblatt in 1980—- the girl on the very left is called Carol and used to work in my building in Johannesburg in 1978.
This is a newspaper from Johannesburg from 1975 that I saved all these years. Carol Mitchell was full page that time.
ADOBEA,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,a beautiful lady from Ghana.
Taken in a village in Natal, South Africa.
On the Beach— I took this pic in Durban, S Africa
These villages are fairly remote and these kids don’t see white folks too often. It’s so much fun to see how excited they get when I arrive with my camera.
The very handsome Al Maxted, my X father in law. I took this on a Nikormat using Ilford FP4 film. Al just passed away recently God Bless him he was a very fine man.
Al's father The Grandmaster of the Lodge. This too is in Johannesburg.
Myself on the right with the Maxted clan. Can't think who took the picture. I don't see Alan Jnr so maybe it was him. Can't believe they allowed me to smoke a cigar in the house. Wait a mo! Al has a cigarette in his hand!
Some old super 8 video of the Joy Place where the Maxteds lived outside of Johannesburg
The old man of Lesotho.
Downtown Johannesburg
My brother Pete ( center) and his best friend Pete (the Cop!) Sadly both of these fine men are no longer with us. This may have been in Mexico, Acapulco.
Frank White- a Sheffield Legend
I used to go see Frank at The Black Swan and The Cannon Hall
The above image of a Sheffield legend— Frank White. World class guitarist who loved to keep his enormous talents local. Framk never became the international star he could have been— he chose home life and family first and he is deeply religious. He was a regular at the Cannon Hall my local pub. Frank would also play for the big names when they breezed back into town— Joe Cocker was one.
The Cannon Hall where Frank used to play
Dave Berry, another Sheffield legend, who went to No 1 with his song The Crying Game— I said hi to him in the Bank once!
And of course the biggest of them all from Sheffield—— the great Joe Cocker.
Just one little footnote here—- when Joe got to No 1 with Help From My Friends we simply went bonkers in Sheffield!!! I remember the headlines in the Sheffield Star “ Its about time Joe!”
I had the incredible pleasure of sitting with him and some other musicians and having beers at the Black Swan. That would have been around 1972.
